Cannabinoid drugs consist of psychoactive substances that act on cannabinoid receptors in nervous system. Cannabinoid refers to the cannabis plants, which contain the naturally occurring types of cannabinoid compounds. Cannabis: three varieties of plants that contain naturally occurring psychoactive cannabinoids. The three varieties of cannabis plants are: (1) cannabis sativa the most commonly used; (2) Cannabis indica ; and (3) cannabis ruderalis : these plants are also referred to as hemp , but name technically to fibers of a plant. The flowers & leaves of cannabis plants contain trichomes small hair-like structures with glands that release a resin containing a number of biologically active substances referred to as phytocannabinoids: biologically active substances found in cannabis plants. Phytocannabinoids include cannabis"s key psychoactive ingredient, 9 tetrahydrocannabinol ( 9-thc), as well as other compounds such as 8 tetrahydrocannabinol ( 8-thc), cannabidol, cannabinol, n-alklamide, and b-caryophyllene.
