Donald hebb observed that over the course of learning, when brain cells consistently stimulate each other, metabolic and physical changes occur to strengthen their relationship. This is known as hebb s law and affects our understanding of memory. Stimulus: an external event or cue that elicits a perceptual response. Unconditioned stimulus - a stimulus that elicits a reflexive response w/x learning. Unconditioned response - a reflexive, unlearned reaction to an unconditioned stimulus e. g. hunger, drooling & pain. Conditioned stimulus - a once-neutral stimulus that later elicits a conditioned response cuz it has a history of being paired w/ an unconditioned stimulus. Conditioned response - learned response that occurs to conditioned stimulus.
