Document Summary
Learning: behaviour/knowledge ch as a result of experience. Cognitive learning: reading, listening & taking tests to acquire new info. Associative learning: e. g. ivan pavlov - prepare dog in a procedure to provide food to dog -> dog salivating when in the preparation procedure even b4 seeing food. Donald hebb observed that over the course of learning, when brain cells consistently stimulate each other, metabolic and physical changes occur to strengthen their relationship. This is known as hebb s law and affects our understanding of memory. Stimulus: an external event or cue that elicits a perceptual response. Unconditioned stimulus - a stimulus that elicits a reflexive response w/x learning. Unconditioned response - a reflexive, unlearned reaction to an unconditioned stimulus e. g. hunger, drooling & pain. Conditioned stimulus - a once-neutral stimulus that later elicits a conditioned response cuz it has a history of being paired w/ an unconditioned stimulus. Conditioned response - learned response that occurs to conditioned stimulus.
