Drive: biological trigger that tells us we may be deprived of sth & causes us to seek out what is needed. Incentives: stimuli we seek out in order to reduce drives. > motivation: influence by stress -> energy consuming -> body predicts resources required -> initiate behaviour to acquire the resources -> Allostasis: motivation influenced by current needs + anticipation of future needs caused by stress. Influence by hormones released in response to energy needs of body. Evolution -> body prefers consuming high-energy food by specialised receptors @ tongue that are sensitive to fat -> send msg to brain -> stimulate release of endorphin & dopamine. Sugar x": addiction to candy & chocolate ~= drug cuz both stimulate release of ntm dopamine @ nucleus accumbent (reinforcing e ect of subs) Stress a ects ghrelin lv (hormone secreted @ stomach -> stilaute stomach contraction & appetite) cuz stressed = being threatened.
