Document Summary
Scatterplot: graph that plots on quantitative variable versus another quantitative variable. They are the ideal way to picture associations. A pattern that runs from upper left to lower right is said to display negative association. A pattern running in the opposite direction (lower left to upper right) is said to display a positive association. Second thing to look for in scatter plots is form. If there"s a straight-line relationship (looks like a generally consistent line) the association is described as linear. These are the most common and most useful for statistics. Third thing to look for is the strength of the relationship. Lastly you look for anything standing out from the original pattern, such as outliers: a point that does not fit the overall pattern seen in the scatterplots. Types: (x) explanatory variable: the independent x-variable (y) response variable: variable of interest it"s dependent y-variable.
