Language levels: language shares fundamental structures will all other languages. This allows us to detect (cid:498)what has gone wrong,(cid:499) fleshing out what because of the pronunciation of the word (cid:498)pboy(cid:499). Taken separately, each sound (or alphabet character) in pboy is a legitimate one in english. The violated principle therefore is not in the selection of any individual sound, but in the combination of two sounds /pb/ at the beginning of the word. This combination never occurs in english: for example: johnny is a pboy who loves pizza. This sentence is not correct: studying such principles falls into the domain of phonology, another error: johnny is an boy who loves pizza. The violated rule here is morphological one- the indefinite article should be a, not, an. The error is not phonological because, taken in isolation, the form an, is well formed.
