Consciousness indicate awareness of : self, bodily sensations, thoughts, environment. Level of consciousness: a continuum, not an on or off state of being. Low awareness: cues in environment elicit response from us even when we"re not consciously perceiving it, priming effect. Activating concepts and association from one"s memory: implicit associations test (iat) Uses computers to assess people"s reaction times to different stimuli. Solves the problem of people not aware of their motives and beliefs enough to self-report. Can discover un-conscious biases: by clicking good or bad quickly to people of different races. Ex. when we snap at someone out of frustration, but thinks back and re ect on our action: constantly altering between high and low thinking states.
