Document Summary

Shift between being an ape that moved on all fours to a creature that could walk on hind legs. Transition in hominid evolution that occurred over 3 million yrs ago. Shape of feet can be seen as a cultural product - wearing shoes changes the shape of your feet, and changes the ay you run. Cultural experiences do not just shape the ways we think but also affect our bodies and health. Human biology varies across cultures, two explanations: 1) humans in different parts of the world are subject to different selection pressures over many generations. In other words: innate biological differences across cultures. 2) people living in different cultures have experiences within their own lifetimes that have an impact on their biology. Everyone is genetically unique with their own collection of genetic variants (except monozygotic twins) Humans evolve in response to selection pressures form the environment.
