The study of emotion: concerns the physiological and psychological processes underlying the initiation of behaviour that direct organisms to eat specific goals. Drive: the biological trigger that tells us we may be deprived of something and causes us to seek out what is needed, such as food or water. When drive is satisfied, rewards centre is activated. Motivation contributes to homeostasis: the body"s psychological processes that allow id to maintain consistent internal stats in response to the outer environment. Allostasis: motivation is not only influenced by current need, but also the anticipation of future needs. Hunger is a homeostatic and also physiological response. E. g. if hypothalamus detects change in the level of glucose: Neurons called glucostats detect glucose levels in outside fluid. Satiation: the point in a meal when we are no longer motivated to eat. Neurons release cck when intestinal expand, ventromedial hypothalamus detects this and decrease hunger.
