Document Summary

Haptics the active, exploratory aspect of touch sensation and perception (ex. the act of holding an apple and feeling it with your fingertips to make sure there are no abnormalities) Kinesthesis it is a sense (like taste, hearing, etc. ) that is involved in coordinating your body movements to make sure you don"t fall, lose balance, etc. The receptors for kinesthesis are in the muscles, joints, and tendons (the receptors transmit information about your movement and position to the brain). Nociceptors special nerve endings that initiate pain messages that relay them to the spinal cord which are relayed to the brain that tell you that you are in pain (found on skin, teeth, and internal organs) Fast nociceptor nerve fibers register sharp, immediate pain while slow nociceptor nerve fibers register chronic, dull pain (like a stomach ache). Gate-control theory explains our experience of pain as an interaction between nerves that transmit pain messages and those that inhibit pain messages.
