Document Summary
Maslow created a hierarchy of needs that humans need (bottom to top goes from most important to least important) Once one need is met, we can move on to the next need. Problems with this hierarchy idea: the idea of fulfilling one need before moving on to the next is too simplistic. We know we can work on fulfilling more than one need at once: too individualistic and doesn"t focus on our needs to get along with society. Although there are problems, his model has helped us to understand that our needs work beyond simply eating, sleeping, and reproducing. Need to belong is the motivation to maintain relationships that involve pleasant feelings such as warmth, affection, appreciation, and mutual concern for each person"s well-being. Berscheid and walter proposed the first scientific model of love (which is still widely accepted today). Love has two components: passionate love is associated with a physical and emotional longing for the other person.
