Document Summary

Module 6. 1 classical conditioning: learning by association. Learning: is a process by which behavior or knowledge changes as a result of experience. Cognitive learning reading, listening, taking tests to acquire new information. Pavlov"s discovery that a bell could cause a dog to salivate is part if a process called classical conditioning. Classical conditioning: learning that occurs when a neutral stimulus elicits a response that was originally caused by another stimulus. In the experiment the neutral stimulus was the sound of the tone, which was paired with meat powder that could by itself elicit salivation. After repeated pairings, the dogs learned that the tone predicted meat powder. Eventually, just hearing the tone alone could elicit salivation. Pavlov"s experiment served as on of the foundations of behaviorism (line of inquiry focused on observable behaviors) Unconditioned stimulus (us): is a stimulus that elicits a reflexive response without learning. Unconditioned response (ur): is a reflexive, unlearned reaction to an unconditioned stimulus.
