Document Summary
Natural selection: the process by which certain adaptive characteristics emerge over generations. Evolutionary personality theory: an area of study applying biological evolutionary theory to human evolution. In angelman syndrome, individuals are really happy, good looking, and friendly, but also suffer from mental retardation, sleep little, and walk in a jerky motion. Behavioural genomics: the study of how genes affect behaviour. Temperament: stable individual differences in emotional reactivity. Emotionality: how aroused by anger and fear one gets. Introversion/extraversion dimension includes aspects of the activity and sociability dimension. Extraverts have a low level of brain arousal, and seek stimulation. Introverts have a higher level of brain arousal and so they shy away from stimulating circumstances. Observation and learning are key to survival. The behavioural inhibition system (bis) and the behavioural activation/approach system (bas). Bis provides an orienting response to novel stimuli and responds to punishing things. If this system is sensitive, prone to anxiety.
