Memory is active any time past experience has effect on thought/behaviour. Sensory memory: brief persistence of image (e. g. face illuminated by flash still see face in darkness after) Short-term memory (working memory): info that stays in our memory for brief periods (10-15s) Long-term memory: storing info for long periods of time (minutes to lifetime) Semantic memory: facts (e. g. addresses, object names) modal model of memory. Model proposed 3 types of memory (called structural features): sensory memory: initial stage that holds all incoming info for seconds or fractions of a second, short-term memory (stm): holds 5-7 items for ~15-20s. 3. long-term memory (ltm): holds large amount of info for years. Control processes: dynamic processes associated w/ structural features that can be controlled by person & may differ from one task to another.
