In order to make good political decisions, policy makers need to collect accurate information about society and then analyze it, drawing conclusions in systematic, logical ways. Not all politicians agree with this point of view: they have agendas for political change and may ignore information that undermines this agenda. One of the main goals of all sociological research is to propose and examine models of reality commonly called theories. Beneath all sociological activities there are theories being constructed, debated, and revised. Constructing theories is a legitimate activity that can be explanatory and open- ended. It isnt always aimed at solving pressing social problems and can be as much contributing to academic conversation. The exchange theory of mating versus the evolutionary theory of mating.
