FOX CODING SCHEME RACE IN RELATION TO CRIME
Race: a group of people who share similar and distinct physical characteristics, refers to a person's physical
characteristics, such as bone structure and skin, hair, or eye color. An example of race is brown, white, or black
skin (all from various parts of the world). If your news article mentions a suspect or perpetrators race or
any indicators of race, it fits the criteria of inclusion.
Violent Crime: A violent crime or crime of violence is a crime in which an offender uses or threatens force
upon a victim. This entails both crimes in which the violent act is the objective, such as murder, as well as
crimes in which violence is the means to an end.
