Document Summary

What you eat has significant effects on an individual"s well-being and health. Nutritional habits help to determine an individual"s risk of developing chronic diseases. Choosing a healthy diet involves two steps; knowing which and how much nutrients that your body needs, and translating those requirements into a healthy diet that consists of enjoyable and affordable food. Each individual body requires around 50 essential nutrients. These substances are essential because our bodies cannot produce them on its own. The body needs macronutrients in large amounts (i. e. carbohydrates, proteins, fats) and micronutrients in small amounts (i. e. minerals, vitamins) During the digestion process, your body obtains these nutrients. Energy in food is measured in kilocalories. Each person needs around 2000 calories in order to supply enough energy that they need for physiological tasks. Because fat contains so many calories, high fat diets are often advised against, calories that are not used are converted to fat.
