Every cell in the human body contain 23 pairs of chromosomes (46) Gametes = cells that unite at conception, contain only 23 chromosomes each (sperm & egg) Zygote = 23 chromosomes of the sperm unite w the 23 chromosomes of the ovum fertilized egg w 46 chromosomes (entirely new cell) If you survive turners syndrome = incomplete development (organ defects, short) Women"s chromosomes & ova carry x chromosomes. Sex = determined by the sex chromosome in the sperm xx = girl. 1/2 of a man"s sperm contains x chromosomes, the other half contain y chromosomes. Most of the time, humans are conceived & born at 1 time. Roughly 3% of births are multiples, usually twins (90%)
