Scientific study of behavior, internal procceses that cannot be studied by physical means: must be inferred from measureable responses. Schools of psychology: cognitive, mental processes, biopsychology, biological effects on behavior, developmenal, development over lifetime, experimental, basic procceses of humans (learning) Industrial-organizational (i/o), workplace behavior: personality, social, behavior from social perspective. 4 main goals of psychology: describe behavior, explain and understand causes of behavior, predict how organisms react under certain conditions. 3 main levels of analysis: biological (brain, nerves, horomones, environmental (culture, social and personal environments, value systems) Individual and psychological (learning, cognition, thoughts, motives etc. ) Replaced by functionalism, study the functions of consciousness and not structures. Psychodynamic -> find reasons behind our behavior within our personality: problems lie within unconscious mind. Behaviorism: environmental, focuses on behavior change based on environment. Lead to the thought that environment affects thoughts directly and not just behavior. Humanism: focuses on values and choice, both biological and environmental.
