Emotions are positive and negative feelings consistent of a pattern of cognitive, physiological, and behavioural reactions to events that have relevance to important goals or motives. Events can be external situations such as seeing an oncoming car swerving into your lane, or a group of people walking towards you who are smiling. Or they may be internal thoughts, memories, or images, such as remembering the look or sound of someone familiar. Motivation and emotion have always been closely linked. One reason that they are closely linked is because they both involve states of arousal and both can trigger patterns of action. Some believe there is a link between o(cid:374)e"s motives and their emotions, the idea that we act upon our emotions, we react emotionally when our motives and goals are gratified, threated or frustrated.
