Social impact theory: likelihood of conforming to social in uence depends on: strength - how important is the group to you. 2: number - how many people are in the group. Immediacy - how close is group to you in space/time during in uence attempt. Number: conformity increases as the number of people in the group increases - once majority reaches. 4 or 5 pressures peak: as size of group increases each additional person has less of an in uencing e ect. *size more likely to matter with normative in uence. Strategies to resist normative pressure: be aware social normative in uence is operating. Compliance: compliance: a change in behaviour in response to a direct request from another person. 2: price is probably only slightly higher than price at another dealer - already there so goes triggers anticipation of an exciting event (not going ahead with deal = disappointment) through with it.
