Makes its way toward uterus by propulsion from cilia in fallopian tube. Sperm manufactured in seminiferous tubules of testes. During ejaculation, move up over bladder in vas deferens. Travel down through ejaculatory duct, mixed with seminal fluid. About 2 million sperm come out through urethra into vagina. Swim up through cervix and uterus to outer third of fallopian tube to meet egg. React to chemical secreted from egg and swim towards it. Release hyaluronidase from acrosome to dissolve zona pellucida (gelatinous layer of egg: hyaluronidase: enzyme secreted by sperm allowing one sperm to penetrate egg. One sperm penetrates egg to conceive zygote (fertilized egg: zygote: developing organism from the time of the union of the sperm and the egg to about the second week of gestation. Zygote continues down fallopian tube toward uterus.
