The results of a study reported in 1894 indicated that recall of concrete nouns on a list improved when participants were told to form images of the words! Bower"s (1970) research showed in particular that for images to be maximally effective in paired associations, participants should try to form images that interact! The images should depict the to-be-remembered items interacting in some way with items at the various loci: pegword method! Involves picturing the items with another set of ordered cues !
