Each person possesses several traits; combination of traits describes his/her personality. This chapter: focuses on patterns of highly maladaptive personality traits. Enduring pattern of inner experience and behaviour that deviates markedly from the expectations of the individual"s culture, is pervasive and inflexible, has an onset in adolescence or early adulthood, is stable over time, and leads to distress or impairment. Note: definition ignores the fact that the behaviour of most of us is also modified by context.
