Motivation: a process that influences the direction, persistence, and vigor of self-directed behaviour. Instinct: inherited predisposition to behave a specific and predictable way when exposed to a particular stimulus. Have a genetic basis, found universally, do not depend on learning and have survival value. Adaptive significance of behaviour: drive theory (and homoestasis) Homeostasis: the body strives to maintain an internal physical equilibrium. There is an optimal set point through a feedback system. Control centre: receives sensory info and sends to response. Drive: the internal state of tension motivating to act to reduce it (push: expectancy theory expectancy x value theory (and incentives) Incentives: (cid:862)pull(cid:863) of e(cid:454)ter(cid:374)al sti(cid:373)uli that ha(cid:448)e a high (cid:448)alue to the i(cid:374)di(cid:448)idual.
