Is a broad theoretical perspective concerned with the subjective meanings of social problems. If members of the public were more inclined to report crime, we would see an increase in crime. Control theory: crime and deviance are less likely to occur when internal and external controls are weak or absent. Internet uses that deviance has been used for includes identity theft, cyber stalking and the sale and distribution of porn. Internet has also become a medium by which people can target their dislike of and hatred for other people. Internet can also be used for political purposes (downloading secret military information: older modes of communication are vulnerable to hacking. Intervention is seen as an effective strategy for young offenders in order to reduce crime. Interventionist policies assume that we can most effectively tackle crime by weakening motivations and minimizing opportunities for law breaking.
