In order to discover the principles of another way of life, the researchers must become the students. And the storytellers, shopkeepers and the local farmers(i. e. locals ) become the teachers. Discovering the insiders view is a different kind of knowledge from one that rests mainly on the outsiders view, eve when the outsider is a trained social scientist. Ethnocentrism: is the belief tat ones culture is the best and no allowance of intercultural understanding is present: denial of common humanity. Why does this matter: it enables us to acquire knowledge on human conditions, apply knowledge and perspective to improve understanding, resolve our problems and make positive changes/contributions. When ethnographers study other cultures they must deal with three fundamental aspects of human experiences: what people do, what people know, things people make and use.
