Chapter 9: group cohesion is sport and exercise. Participation in group activities occurs in sports as well as non-sport lives as well. Group dynamics is viewed as a major branch of social psychology. Group dynamics focuses on gaining knowledge about the nature of groups and their development and pn understanding the interrelationships between groups of individuals, other groups, and larger institutions. Implicit is the idea that a group is different from a mere collection of individuals. The term assembly effect refers to variations in group behaviour that are a function of the particular combinations f individuals in the group. Rather have five guys with less talent who are willing to come together then five guys who consider themselves stars and aren"t willing to sacrifice. Strong connection between team effectiveness and group behavior in the sport setting. Number of group processes associated with how effective a group becomes, including combination, decision-making, and cohesion.
