Rock music of mid 70s traced influences to the psychedelic music of the late 60s. British blues based music blended folk with classical elements. Some blues based bands such as lynrd skynrd added elements of american south to music. Progressive bands like jethro tull combined rock with classical music to develop viruosic, ambitious style. Bowie and alice cooper created unique stage personas for their shows. Elements that coexisted in psychedelia get increaingly separated out and developed into their own specific styles. First half of 70s characterized by bands still experimenting and testing the limits of rock. Stylistic range as well as the business of rock music was growing and transforming. Rock business now owned and run by multinational corporations with little previous involvement in music: one way to cast rock in the 70s is as a chronicle of decline. Most of what"s best about music in the late 60s get progressively corrupted by big money and egos.
