Psychotic disorder in which people deteriorate into a world of distorted perceptions, disturbances in thoughts, emotions, behaviours and experience motor abnormalities. Hallucinations (false sensory perceptions) or delusions (false beliefs) Pathological excesses, bizarre additions to a person"s behaviour. Delusions, disorganized thinking and speech, hallucinations, inappropriate affect most common. Delusions of persecution: people believe they are being plotted or discriminated against, spied on, slandered, threatened etc. Delusions of identity: person believes they are jesus christ or winston churchill etc. Delusions of grandeur: believe they have some special talent or are privy to secret knowledge. Loose associations/derailment: rapidly shift from one topic to another believing their incoherent statements make sense. Auditory hallucinations: most common, hear sounds and voices that seem to come from outside head. Inappropriate effect: emotions unsuited to situation, smile when making serious statement or being told terrible news, upset in situations that should make them happy.
