Some chemicals in these products (i. e. toluene) are volatile if you take the lid off, it transitions from a liquid to gas, and you can breathe vapours into your lungs. Discovered in early 1700s, quickly realized that it could be inhaled to produce anesthesia. Causes some people to go into convulsions that may lead to vomiting, choking, and death. Recreational potential was soon realized as a party gas , produces a drunk-like feeling. Discovered late 1700s, quickly realized that it produced extreme outbursts of laughing in some users.
