Document Summary
Ericson"s stages of development: if you believe that anxiety is a physiological problem you can block stimulation of cortex, and the end organ that receives the feedback from the amygdala or you can target the neurotransmitter cascade. The point is if you believe chemistry is underlying problem then you give bzs to treat the problem. Bzs, antidepressants and sleeping aids work on a variety of these pathways. If you block nt cascades, you will relieve symptoms of anxiety, and a lot of evidence that suggests that it works. C. w. that will do exactly as told (take lorazepam 3 times a day at bedtime) and experience no relief. But, worse they will experience hideous side-effects, like addiction. So, if all we think is that chemistry is the only answer we will. Not help a lot of people in the long run: unfortunate effects of bzs, psychological and physiological dependence these medications suffer from tachyphlaxis (they become less effective over time).
