Interested in treatments that have substantial effects on important behaviours and that be implemented reliably in real world. Researcher usually waits until the behaviour in one condition becomes fairly consistent from observation to observation before changing conditions aka steady state strategy. Reversal designs: aka aba design, phase a: a baseline is established for the dependent variable (kind of control condition) Chapter 14 kine 2049: phase b: begins as researcher introduces the treatment. In one version of it, baseline established for each of the several participants and treatment is introduced for each (tested in an ab design), treatment introduced at a different time for each participant. If dependent variable changes when treatment is introduced for multiple participants, then is its unlikely to be a coincidence. If productivity increases on both tasks for example, at different times, then it seems much clearer that the treatment was responsible: solution 3: multiple baselines established for the same participant but in different settings.
