Keynote:- what key or tone dominates the piece, a tone or formality that a piece of music contains. In terms of soundscape concept the keynote is natural sounds that occur in any environment, they refer to the as natural sounds in the article. Wind, climate, water - subconscious sounds that occur all the time, when we are walking down the street - some keynote sounds that we hear and we might not pay attention to:- When cars are passing us on the street, it"s there but it"s a subconscious thing. however in our soundwalk it will be a keynote, or footsteps. Signal- conscious sound - something in foreground - something you would notice. If a dog barks at us- it will something we will conscious lt pay attention to. Or a bird we took notice of chirping. Soundmark - something that is unique to that environment.
