Tons of new technologies in the previous two decades. We satisfy our hunger for quick access to information through twitter, texting, etc. Dopamine is released, producing the desire to seek out more information, releasing more dopamine and so on. This may explain why it"s hard to break away from these activities. 90% of cellphone users say they feel safer with a cell phone. We aren"t able to prevent a new technology from being invented, but we do control whether or not we adopt it. Eg. nuclear power, provides electricity without carbon dioxide emissions, but produce radioactive material that must be stored away for one hundred thousand years safely. We also influence the rate at which new technology is developed. Congress passed the intellectual property laws that allow people to make money from their creative work, and the federal income tax structure allows individuals to accumulate great wealth. Beneficial changes technology has introduced into our lives.
