Attractiveness of defendant impacts decisions made in legal system. Symmetrical faces, looks good = must be good, we also think inverse. Womens ability to detect facial symmetry increases when menstruating. People may want to associate with attractive people because could lead to social profit. Women at most fertile period when considering long term partner look at attractiveness and masculinity, dominance + attractiveness. To contrast, for short term, only look at social presence and competitiveness. Gender differences much more pronounced, not necessarily based on evolution. Both genders prefer exclusive partners in the long term. Both prefer attractiveness for short term mate, both more selectively for long term mate. Men place more importance on physical features then women do. Women more importance on level of access to resources. Both men + women see androgynous dating partners are more desirable, feminine characteristics better than masculine ones.
