For standard sequences of events, people can use specialised schemas and scripts. These provide guide for people to know what the influences on memory, they do not always dominate. In the right circumstances people can disregard their schemas and scripts and more accurately remember the details that were actually encountered. Capture regulatrites about the world, so they are useful in predicting new situations.
