Document Summary
Chapter 6: gender comparisons in social and personality characteristics: social contructionist approach: we construct or invent our own versions of reality, based on prior experiences, social interactions and beliefs. The social constructionist approach often focuses on language as a mechanism for categorizing our experiences. Our experience in our culture provides the information necessary to invent. We create our versions of reality, based on our gender-related interactions our own versions of reality and experiences in the world. We construct our view of the world, including what it means to be male or female. Each person in a culture does not construct completely different versions of the reality that he/she experiences. When other people are present, this is different than libratory replication. Gender difference in terms of social constructionist approach are large when the relevant behaviour involves skills related to ones gender.
