The inside of a neuron is formed of cytoplasm and interstitial fluid on the outside. Action potentials propagate down the length of axons ; propagation process only goes in one direction (cell body to axon terminal) The frequency with which a neuron fires spontaneous action potentials is called its resting rate. Sensory receptors have no dendrites but they detect various energy in the environment. Refractory period the short recovery period after an action potential which also maxes out the receptors firing rate.
