In later european history, the struggle was between classes of subjects and the government. Patriots tried to limit the power of the ruler. Obtaining recognition of certain political liberties or rights; right to rebel if infringed upon. Constitutional checks which established power of consent for the governed. Eventually the people wanted their leaders to be subject instead of opped to them. Once officials became elected, people thought that power shouldn"t be limited. The nation did not need to be protected against its own will . The us became an example of how the people do not actually rule themselves. Those who have power exercise it over those without power. The majority sometimes purposefully oppresses the minority. The tyranny of the majority is generally believed to stem from public authority.
