Document Summary

Chapter 11 consists of microfibrils( long strands of cellulose in cable like structures) and pectins( molecules that are hydrophilic, attract large amouts of water to keep it moist) Turgor pressure incoming water increases cell volume, exerting a force against the wall can cause elongation. Expansions disrupt hydrogen bonds that cross-link the microfibrils in the wll allowing them to slide past on another. Seconday cell wall is between the plasma membrane and the primary cell lignin- complex polymer that forms an exceptionaly rigid network. Extracellular matrix structural support collagen- cable like protein proteoglycans- matrix that surrounds collagen and other fibrous components, consists of protein cores with many large polysaccharides. Ecm usually synthesized i rug her, processed in golgi appareatus and secreted from cell via exocytosis. Laminins are membrane protiens that bind to extracellular protiens, including laminins , whih turn into binding components of ecm.
