The floods also destroyed 50 years" worth of financial infrastructure. Some say the economic total of the losses was over billion. There is also widespread violence in the region. The drug trade is really the only thing keeping afghanistan"s economy afloat. Climate stress and economic stability are what is causing the mass violence in. 2/3rds of the afghans are farmers even though most of the country is desert. America"s occupation for the war but there has been war in afghanistan long before america intervened. Obviously religious extremism has a lot to do with these conflicts but climate also plays a major role. A harsh winter forced farmers to eat whatever they had leading to a massive famine, the worst in afghan history.
