Document Summary

Humans can survive for several weeks without food but only for about one week without water. The human body consists of 50 to 70 percent water by weight. The water in the human body functions for many different reasons. Water helps the body in all these ways. Water is there to bath cells and keep them functioning. Water also plays a role in keeping the fluid, electrolyte, and ph balance maintain so they can function and stay at the needed levels. Water also plays a huge role in transportation. Water helps molecules and cells move throughout the body and get where they need to be to let the body function correctly. Drinking water is important to maintain normal body functioning. Without water none of these processes would be able to operate causing distress on the body. Individual needs for water vary according to dietary factors, age, size, overall health, environmental temperature and humidity, and exercise.
