Document Summary

2060 educational psychology - study guide chapter 10: define motivation. Know the five basic levels of needs and their order on the hierarchy. Maslow"s hierarchy of needs is a chart identifying the 2 types of needs: Deficiency needs needs that are critical to physical and psychological well-being (physiological, safety, love, and esteem). Growth needs- the need to understand, appreciate beauty, or grow and develop in appreciation of others (need to know, aesthetic, self-actualization). In order to reach growth needs, one must have at least partially satisfied deficiency needs: define attribution theory. A theory of motivation where a person seeks to understand the causes of success and failure. Stable refers to factors that remain constant: iq, physical characteristics. Controllable factors are ones that the learner can change: amount of studying, attention put into learning. Uncontrollable are things that are out of the learner"s control: one-time events, outside interference: know how the above six factors or characteristics relate to motivation.
