HB 237 Chapter 4: HB 237 – Chapter 4 Summary
Document Summary
In every business, managers are responsible for providing the quality products and services customers and guests are looking for. The duies and responsibiliies of managers can be viewed in several ways. One way to examine managers and their role in operaing a business is to study the four major funcions of management: planning, organizing, direcing and controlling. Planning involves seing goals and deciding what to do as well as when to do it. Proper organizing of the available resources can help managers reach the goals the business has established. Because most businesses rely upon employees to help accomplish organizaional goals, these staf members must be directed, or led, in a way that ensures quality service. Managers are responsible for monitoring and controlling the costs associated with operaing a business. Hotel managers are primarily responsible for the day-to-day aciviies of a hotel. Some hotels need only a few managers; others need a good amount of managers.
