Older societies have abandoned older people due to scarce resources. Our society is not much different: urging retirement, putting older adults in nursing homes when they don"t have enough resources. About 1 out of 10 older people is living in poverty. Older adults are subject to discrimination: job discrimination, ageism, intellectual ability is thought to decline, emphasis is placed on beauty in our society, older adults are thought to be senile. The increasing older population: aging baby boomers, the older adults will undergo a number of cultural, social, and economic changes. Straining family resources: rising healthcare costs and super-longevity have ignited a controversy over whether to ration health care to the very old. Financial problems of older people: lack adequate food, essential clothes and drugs, phones, etc, older women are more likely to be poor than older men, financial problems are compounded by other factors. Inflation: social security is the most important source of income.
