ANT 3541 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Richard Wrangham
Document Summary
Introsexual competition in height with young adults - summarizing and taking notes on a recent study. Introsexual competition is the competition with your own sex. Men prefer females who are shorter than themselves, but not much shorter. In this study they found that height is strongly associated to strength and resource hunting. Height might be a factor in competitive in our rivals. Smaller men have a disadvantage - taller men are perceived to have less competition compared to shorter men - this is because they are perceived to be more dominant and can win a fight. Issues found with this story - all of the participants came from the same socio economic background and were similar colors. Sexual dimorphism - a physical difference between males and females apart from their reproductive characteristics. Strong selection or taller guys have the advantage due to them being larger than predators.
