System continues to change, making use of new technology, expanding in some sectors and contracting in others, additional occupations and professions will appear. Personnel of those new occupations and professions will be required to possess more specialized knowledge and more sophisticated skills. Health care occupations have been regulated by one of three procedures: state licensure. The state law defines the scope of practice to be regulated and the education and testing requirements that must be met to engage in that practice.
