Roman official pilate, thinking they may cause violence: condemned jesus to death to avoid riots. Paul of tarsus converted to jesus"s beliefs and spread them through letters of advice, which were copied and circulated: jesus"s ideas into more specific moral teachings. At first romans didn"t care about christianity, just saw it as an off-shoot of judaism. Slowly some started to oppose the belief system: thought they were subversive. Objected to cult of the emperor: worst of the mystery cults.
