MMW 13 Chapter Reading: University Charter of Heidelberg
a. The school will be set up like the University of Paris and be a sister institution. It will be
divided into four colleges, each with a specific philosophy which the students will be a
part of for the duration of their study. Students will also be required to wear a uniform of
a cap and gown. Anyone who has a problem with or deviates from the regulations and
norms of the school will be expelled and/or denied any future association and
communication with the school and any of its faculty. Also no one in the school will ever
divulge its secrets to anyone or else they will suffer the same fate as the people
previously mentioned.
b. The bishop of Worms will be in charge of appointing law clerks to the school. Any clerks
or bailiffs found guilty of a serious crime will lose their position. Any scholar or master
found guilty of a slight crime will not be detained like other people would, but would be
free to continue their work or studies as long as they promised to appear in court. Any
scholar or master found guilty of a serious crime would be immediately handed over to
the bishop and be kept in his custody.
c. The students and professors of the school are guaranteed to be able to buy anything
they need to live or study by the university. As such, they can buy pretty much anything
they want in the town tax free (and in some other towns as well).
d. The school takes it upon themselves to fix the prices and collect the rent for the houses
that the students will live in in the town. The school will then pay the rent to the landlords
on behalf of the students.
