The ability to use symbols, create meaning, and communicate ideas defines what it means to be human: we influence ppl and move them to action through creative and effective presentations of our ideas. Speaking skills are necessary for: politics, convincing consumers, delivering presentations. We have been influenced greatly in recent years by development of electronic media such as skype, prezi, and conference calling. Use of symbols through speech is a central part of what it means to be human. Communication models: we use theories to explain most, if not all, human behaviors. 1st of these elements is source, which in terms of public speaking is speaker. Speaker is person responsible for inventing idea on which he/she intends to speak and crafting message that conveys that idea to an audience. When speaker converts idea into works he or she is encoding it. End result of encoding process is a message. Message is then delivered through a channel.
